Mahraka Archive
This website is about the northern mountainous region of Pakistan and its adjacent areas. This region is where three of the world’s major mountain systems, the Hindukush, the Karakoram and the Himalayas, meet. Many ethnic and linguistic groups have lived in the valleys of these mountains for thousands of years, and here, their coexistence has created a vast cultural area. Notwithstanding their common cultural traits, these groups have managed to maintain their ethnic, linguistic and cultural identities to a great extant. The website contains a selected collection of books, research articles and photographs on the history, culture, religions, languages and economy of these human groups, and this collection continues to grow over time. In addition, some samples of literature created in the region are also presented from time to time.
This website was founded to provide study and research materials to students of local universities, and it offers its services free of charge to students and researchers.
